Born and raised in Nara Prefecture, Japan, Daisuke first visited Thailand in 1998. Realising that he wanted to live and work in the country someday, he began studying the basics of the Thai language. More than a decade later, he found his chance. Daisuke joined another BDO in Thailand office in 2012, building his skills and experience over the following years.
Daisuke’s career led to other opportunities in Thailand, before joining our new BDO in Thailand office. However, he was in Japan when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted international travel, and he remains located there as the firm’s specialist on international and Japanese financial issues. Daisuke leads seminars covering the business impact of COVID-19, and frequently coordinates with other BDO offices in Asia for the benefit of clients.
Reflecting on his physical separation from the BDO in Thailand office, Daisuke’s good humour shines through. “Part of the reason I joined the firm was because I love being in Thailand,” he says. “But here I am anyway, back in my home province. At least I am there in spirit with my new colleagues.”
Although Daisuke waits for his chance to return to Thailand, he expects that teleconferencing rather than in-person meetings will be the standard for some time to come. “On the plus side,” he says, “technology does open up new possibilities. Once I return to Thailand, this same trend will make my work as a Japanese specialist much easier. The digital world is ideal for meeting and coordinating on projects across borders.”
As for BDO itself, Daisuke particularly appreciates the firm’s philosophy and concept. Its people have made a real impression on him, too. “I’m proud to be a part of this team – even if I’m separated by distance. They are very passionate about helping people, and giving the right kind of support to each other as well as our clients.”
